About the Hotel

Syracuse's most enduring independent hotel

The Genesee Grande Hotel has been one of downtown Syracuse's most recognized addresses for decades. Sitting at 1060 East Genesee Street, just under a mile from Syracuse University and the Carrier Dome, the hotel was fully renovated in 2003 under independent ownership and has remained that way ever since. No chain flags. No loyalty point programs. Just a hotel that takes its place in the community seriously.

Owner Norm Swanson renovated the Genesee Grande in 2003, turning it into one of the standout independent properties in Central New York alongside his other downtown Syracuse hotels, the Parkview and Hotel Skyler. Where those two eventually joined national brands, the Genesee Grande stayed independent, which is part of what makes it distinctive in a city otherwise dominated by chain properties near the university and the hospital.

The hotel sits in a stretch of East Genesee Street that has defined Syracuse's identity for generations. Upstate University Hospital is less than a mile away. The Carrier Dome is within easy walking distance. Armory Square, the city's most lively dining and nightlife district, is just minutes by car. Very few hotels anywhere in the country are positioned this well relative to the things that bring people to a city.

Weddings at the Genesee Grande

Where Syracuse gets married

The Genesee Grande Ballroom has been one of the most consistently chosen wedding venues in the Syracuse area for over two decades. The reasons are straightforward. The space is beautiful without being cold. The coordination team knows what they are doing. And the fact that guest rooms, a bar, and a restaurant are all inside the same building makes the logistics of a wedding weekend dramatically simpler than most venues can offer.

Syracuse-area wedding photographers including Mary Buttolph Photography and The Story Photography have documented countless Genesee Grande weddings over the years. Couples who got engaged at the canal and then married in the ballroom. Bridal parties who got ready in the Mayflower Suite. Guests who closed out the night at the 1060 Bar. It all happens here, and it has for years.

The Genesee Grande BallroomAccommodates intimate ceremonies to full receptions. Classic architecture, modern catering capabilities, and an on-site coordination team that has handled every size and style of event.
Guest Room BlocksReserve a block of rooms for your wedding party and out-of-town guests. Getting ready suites available for the bridal party. Everyone stays in the same building, which keeps the morning of and morning after simple.
1060 Bar AfterpartyWhen the ballroom wraps up, the night doesn't have to. The 1060 Bar is available for private afterparty reservations so your guests don't have to go looking for somewhere to celebrate.

"We couldn't have asked for a better venue. The coordinator Jaime went above and beyond every step of the way. Our guests still talk about it years later."

1060 Restaurant & Bar

The best table on East Genesee Street

The 1060 Restaurant is named for the hotel's address at 1060 East Genesee Street, and it has earned its place as one of the better dining options in the neighborhood on its own merits, separate from the fact that it happens to be inside a hotel. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner served daily. A full bar open into the evening. And a consistent menu that draws in locals who have nothing to do with the hotel at all.

On Syracuse University game days, the 1060 is one of the most reliably good options near the Carrier Dome for a sit-down meal before the game. After the game, the bar fills up fast. If you are staying at the Genesee Grande on a home game weekend, you may not need to leave the building for any of it.

Jennifer T.

"We had our wedding reception in the Genesee Grande Ballroom and it was everything we had hoped for. The coordinator handled every detail without us having to follow up on anything. Our photographers told us afterward it is one of the most beautiful venues they work in the entire Syracuse area."

Beth & Tyler K.

"I stayed here for two weeks while my father was recovering at Upstate University Hospital. The staff were warm and understanding from the first day. Clean rooms, great food at the 1060, and close enough to the hospital that I could be there in minutes. It meant more than I can put into words."
